Diemžēl tieši šī funkcija atvieglo arī naida runas izplatīšanos lietotāju starpā. Situācijās, kad pats haštags var tikt uzskatīts par naida runu, pastāv lielāka iespēja, ka tas tiks atklāts un izdzēsts. Tomēr problēma rodas tad, kad pats haštags šķiet nekaitīgs. Social networks have now become a platform for exercising freedom of expression. Hashtags with their unique features facilitate the ability of reaching a bigger audience online. Unfortunately, this exact feature alleviates the dissemination of hate speech amongst users. In situations, when the hashtag itself may be considered hate speech, there is a higher possibility for it to be detected and removed. However, the issue arises when the hashtag itself seems harmless. Bachelor’s thesis “Hate speech in the form of hashtags” provides an insight into the phenomena of hashtags. The author analyses the possibility of considering hashtags as a form of freedom of expression and hate speech. Finally, the author proposes the application of context and other Rabat plan criteria, when assessing publications online containing hashtags, to determine if they constitute hate speech.
