To study the improvement of reading skills for 1st-2nd grade students with intelectual developmental disorders with the involvement of a speech therapist, analyze the results obtained in the research process and summarize the main methods for improving reading skills. Methods of research. Data collection methods – analysis of theoretical literature, analysis of children's personal files, targeted pedagogical observations, questionnaires. Data processing methods – descriptive statistics. Volume of the paper. 55 pages, 13 tables, 10 pictures, 18 annexes, 62 literature sources. Content of the paper. The topicality of the research is the improvement of reading skills with the help of a speech therapist for students with mental developmental disorders in classes 1-2. The work describes literacy, its formation, the main quality indicators of literacy, and analyzes the development of the younger school age. The work has 3 parts: 1. Theoretical positions on literacy. 2. Characterization of a student with mental developmental disorders. 3. Research on developing reading skills for students with mental developmental disorders in speech therapy classes. Applicability of the paper.
