The production of electricity from renewable energy resources is becoming increasingly common practice due to their inexhaustibility and minimal impact on the environment. Mechanisms are being developed by the government to promote electricity generation using non-emission technologies, such as the implementation of a net billing system. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to compare and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of net metering and net billing systems in Latvia in order to determine which one is more suitable and beneficial for active electricity consumers. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the electricity sector and electricity accounting systems in the Baltic region. In the empirical part, based on the electricity consumption of four households from March 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023, the costs of electricity are calculated for both systems, taking into account the installed solar panel capacity, to assess which system is more appropriate. The thesis consists of 69 pages, 9 tables, 25 figures, and 1 appendix. It includes 57 references. Keywords: net metering system, net settlement system, renewable energy resources, micro-generators, solar panels, solar radiation, electricity.
