According to the data of the Latvian Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 200-600 inhabitants of Latvia is falling ill with Lyme borreliosis every year. 20-40% of ticks are infected with Borrelia and the risk of getting sick is very high throughout the territory of Latvia. Therefore, the research is important even today, as the principles of both diagnosis and therapy change over time. In this study, the data of patients hospitalized with meningitis caused by Lyme borreliosis were analyzed at the Latvian Center of Infectious Diseases. In total, 317 medical histories were analyzed in the period from December 14, 2022 to February 15, 2023, and a total of 32 were recognized as suitable for the study. As the main selection criteria was the medical histories of patients diagnosed with lymphocytic meningitis caused by Lyme borreliosis. Men and women were included in the study, dividing them into two age groups. The study design is a retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study, and data analysis was performed in patients with aseptic meningitis caused by Lyme borreliosis. Various patient data were analyzed, including the age and gender of the patients, what was the "working diagnosis" when the patients entered into hospital, the therapy used during the treatment and the duration of the treatment in the hospital. The data analysis was carried out in the SPSS software. The majority of patients came to the hospital under the age of 65 (81.3%). In total, 14 men and 18 women were hospitalized. Several of the hospitalized patients who were included in the study did not have a history of Erythema migrans, which is considered a very frequent "companion" of Lyme borreliosis (not observed in 68.8% of patients). Lyme borreliosis is often confused at the pre-hospital stage with other diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis. Antibodies detection in blood and cerebrospinal fluid analyzes are used as diagnostic methods: detection of antibodies and cytosis in cerebrospinal fluid. Of the antibiotics, ceftriaxone is often used in the treatment of lymphocytic meningitis caused by Lymboreliosis, other antibiotics are used less often. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, mannitol and carbamazepine are also used in the treatment.
