Rezultāti 4 no 68 pacientiem (5,89%) konstatēti 9 virsskaita zobi. Vīriešu (n=3) un sieviešu (n=1) attiecība bija 3:1. 3 pacientiem bija viens (viens) virsskaita zobs un 1 pacientam bija vairāki (n=6) virsskaita zobi. Visi virsskaita zobi bija pastāvīgie zobi. 8 virsskaita zobi nebija izšķīlušies, un viens virsskaita zobs bija izšķīlies. Premolāri bija visbiežāk novērotie virsskaita zobi (n=7) šajā pētījumā, bija skarts otrais molārs, un tika atrasts papildus otrais incisīvs. Secinājumi Virsskaita zobu izplatība mūsu pētījumā ir diezgan augsta, salīdzinot ar pētījumiem dažādos reģionos. Tas varētu būt saistīts ar to, ka mūsu pētījumā tika analizēti pacienti, kuriem bija nepieciešama ortodontiskā ārstēšana. Vīriešiem virsskaita zobus novēroja biežāk kā sievietēm. Vairumam pacientu bija viens neizšķīlies virsskaita zobs. Objectives Supernumerary teeth are defined as those in addition to the normal series of deciduous or permanent dentition. The aim of the present study is to discover the prevalence of supernumerary teeth in orthodontic patients from Latvia. The Study focuses on supernumerary teeth, complications caused by them, and possible treatment options. Research Methodology 68 panoramic radiographs were chosen anonymously in random order from dental clinic records. These panoramic radiographs were examined retrospectively to detect the supernumerary teeth in patients. The prevalence was calculated according to the distribution and characteristics of supernumerary teeth. Results In 4 of the 68 patient’s radiographs 9 supernumerary teeth were found. The prevalence rate of patients affected by hyperdontia was found to be 5,89%. The male (n=3) to female (n=1) proportion in this study was 3:1. 3 patients had one (single) supernumerary tooth and 1 patient had multiple (n=6) supernumerary teeth. All supernumerary teeth were permanent dentition teeth. 8 supernumerary teeth were impacted, and one supernumerary tooth erupted into an oral cavity. Parapremolars were the most prevalent supernumerary teeth (n=7) in this study, one impacted distomolar, and a supernumerary lateral incisor was found. Conclusion The prevalence of supernumerary teeth in the orthodontic patients in Latvia is quite high when compared with studies from different regions. Furthermore, males were affected more frequently than females by hyperdontia. Most patients had single impacted supernumerary tooth. Treatment of supernumerary teeth depends on every patient’s case and management of these teeth should be part of the comprehensive treatment plan. Adult patients typically need combined surgical and orthodontic treatment.
