The aim of the bachelor thesis is to investigate the structure of the animal sale and adoption advertisements and the most characteristic language features such as diminutives, similes, and communicative types of expressions. The advertisements were extracted from the internet portals ss.lv, facebook.com, pp.lv, and the magazine “Astes”. The advertisements for the sale and adoption of animals mainly use three part of the text – introduction, body, and conclusion, but there are advertisements where it is not possible to separate these parts. When creating advertisements, the text has to be adjusted to the target audience, using different language to interest and influence the reader. The use of diminutives conveys a sense of diminution and endearment towards the named reality, most often the animal to be adopted or sold, and creates informality in communication. Similes are used to better describe the animal. Different communicative types are used to attract attention and provoke reflection and emotion in the reader.
