Bakalaura darba temata „Brīvības atņemšanas soda - mūža ieslodzījums - krimināltiesiskie aspekti” izvēle saistīta ar tā aktualitāti mūsdienās Latvijas Republikā, kā arī ārvalstīs. Latvijā mūža ieslodzījums, kā kriminālsods, savu aktualitāti guva tad, kad tika atcelts nāvessods. Ar šādu darbību mūža ieslodzījums kļuva par bargāko sodu Latvijas kriminālsodu sistēmā. Bakalaura darba izstrādes mērķis ir izpētīt mūža ieslodzījuma krimināltiesiskos aspektus, tai skaitā soda piemērošanu un izpildi Latvijā un ārvalstīs; un to problēmjautājumus mūsdienās, kā arī izstrādāt priekšlikumus attiecībā uz mūža ieslodzījuma piemērošanu un izpildi. Mērķa sasniegšanai ir izvirzīti šādi darba uzdevumi: analizēt mūža ieslodzījuma vēsturiskos aspektus; izpētīt mūža ieslodzījuma tiesisko regulējumu un piemērošanas kārtību, tai skaitā ārvalstīs; analizēt mūža ieslodzījuma izpildi un iespēju uz pirmstermiņa atbrīvošanu problēmjautājumus. Darbā tiks pētīta mūža ieslodzījuma, kā kriminālsoda, izpratne un tā vēsturiskā attīstība, tā piemērošana un izpilde Latvijā un vairākas ārvalstīs, tai skaitā Amerikas Savienotajās Valstīs un citās valstīs. Darba ietvaros analizēta ne tikai mūža ieslodzījuma piemērošana un izpilde, bet arī darbā pētīta atbrīvošana pirms termiņa un aizstāšana ar brīvības atņemšanu uz noteiktu laiku, lielu uzmanību veltot uz mūža notiesāto apžēlošanas iespējām. Darbs sastāv no piecām nodaļām, no kurām divas iedalītas divām apakšnodaļās, tā apjoms ir piecdesmit piecām lapaspuses. The choice of the bachelor's thesis topic "Life Imprisonment as a Deprivation of Liberty Penalty - Criminal Legal Aspects" is related to its relevance in modern-day Latvia and abroad. In Latvia, life imprisonment gained its relevance as a criminal penalty when the death penalty was abolished. With this action, life imprisonment became the harshest punishment in Latvia's criminal justice system. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to explore the criminal legal aspects of life imprisonment, including its imposition and execution in Latvia and abroad, as well as the current problems associated with it. Additionally, the thesis aims to develop proposals regarding the imposition and execution of life imprisonment. To achieve this aim, the following tasks have been set: to analyze the historical aspects of life imprisonment, to study the legal regulation and procedures regarding the imposition of life imprisonment, including abroad, and to analyze the execution of life imprisonment and the issues related to early release. The thesis will examine the understanding and historical development of life imprisonment as a criminal penalty, its imposition and execution in Latvia and various other countries, including the United States and other states. The thesis will not only analyze the imposition and execution of life imprisonment but also study early release and its substitution with a fixed-term deprivation of liberty, with a particular focus on the possibility of clemency for those sentenced to life imprisonment. The thesis consists of five chapters, two of which are divided into subchapters. The text consists of five chapters, two of which are divided into two subsections, making it a total of fifty-five pages long.
