dc.description.abstract | Modern software development requires close collaboration between IT and domain experts. However, domain experts lack technical expertise to understand complex code. Therefore, a solution is required, that will be able to ease IT and domain expert collaboration. Executable models can present business processes in an understandable way by domain experts, as well as directly reflect the solution that is being executed. However, this approach has a serious flaw: existing modeling standards lack explicit data flow control and validation. Thus, this study aims to analyze the use of node graph architecture in business process automation in order to address this issue. Node graph architecture is compared with existing modeling standards and their execution engines. A new modeling standard is developed. It is able to reflect both activity and data flow. An architecture for a node graph architecture model execution engine is proposed, as well as a working prototype is created. As a result, it is proven that it is possible to use node graph architecture for business process automation tasks. Moreover, it is proven that node graph architecture brings stability and validation improvements compared to alternative approaches.
