The methods that have been carried out during the study include pollen analysis, plant macrofossil analysis and determination of the biological composition of lake sediments. The results of these analyses suggest that paleoenvironmental conditios during the development of this lake have been quite variable. The interpretation of the pollen diagram as well as it comparison with pollen diagrams from other studies indicates that the beginning of the sedimentation of organic sediments in lake Ķīšezers began in the Subboreal (SB1) period which occurred after the second transgression of the Littorina sea (Lit b). Plant macrofossil analysis and data of biological composition present evidence of the gradual eutrophication of Lake Ķīšezers and a periodical inflow of brackish water.
The Master’s thesis contains 73 pages, 25 figures and 1 appendix.
Key words: Lake Ķīšezers, lagoonal lakes, mud, paleobotanical analyses.
