The bachelor paper „Sexism in Articles by D. Ličkovskis and Letters to the Editor in the Magazine Lilit (March 2005-April 2006)” is based on the theories of social psychologists about modern and old-fashioned sexism, abvivalent sexism and ironic sexism.
Using critical discourse analysis, is appointed, how magazine „Lilit” through the journalist Dmitrijs Lichkovskis popularise the ideology, where in the power relationships between women and men the domineering position is occupied by men.
In the theoretical part of the paper is discussed the concept of gender, gender roles and gender norms, gender schema theory, gender stereotypes, gender discrimination, the role of lifestyle magazines in reinforcing sexist attitudes.
As sexism and gender stereotypes characterizing it are developed culturally in all of the world through years and differently in each country, there is also included the chapter about gender in Easter Europe.
In the research is analyzed hostile, benevolent, old-fashioned, modern and ironic sexism in the discourse of Dmitrijs Lichkovskis, and also the reaction of readers after the hostile sexism in the articles of D. Lichkovskis, benevolent sexism in the readers’ letters, support of the readers to the idejas of D.Lichkovskis and the evaluations of irony of D.Lchkovskis in the letters of the readers of magazine „Lilit.”
After analyzing the discourse of D. Lichkovskis, there is drawn the conclusion that there are all the forms of the sexism – hostile, benevolent, modern, old-fashioned and ironic.
The main conclusion about letters of readers of „Lilita” is that, there are benevolent idejas about women, acceptance and critique about the hostility in the articles of D. Lichkovskis, and that irony helps to silence the sexism in the articles of D. Lichkovskis.
