Second hand clothes can be purchased both in second-hand shops and in vintage shops, however there is a significant difference between the two kinds of shops, as well as between the consumers choice which kind of shops to visit and why. That is why the aim of this paper is to describe phenomena of vintage in Latvia, emphasizing the most relevant differences between second-hand and vintage shops and also between the consumers of the second-hand and vintage shops, and if there are differences.
Three qualitative research methods have been used in this paper: textual analysis, semi – structured complex interviews and participant observation.
The acquired results mark significant differences between the two kinds of shops taking into account the offered products, the way how they are held out, the lay-out of the shop and the atmosphere in the shop. Considering the consumers there are no significant differences because the respondents that were interviewed visit both second-hand and vintage shops. Consumer of the vintage products can be characterized as creative personality, who chooses modified and upgraded clothing and accessories instead of muss production therefore creating a unique look.
Can be expected that the results of the research might be different if the average age of those interwieved would be higher.
