In this work „Finite automata that recognize languages in one letter alphabet” we will consider finite deterministic and nondeterministic automata on single letter languages and situations when all input words are from a special set (promise problems). For any considered language or problem we will find appropriate automata, that recognize it and having as small number of states as possible. We will also use some automata theory and number theory results.
This work also demonstrates that its considered problems are not trivial – number of states of appropriate nondeterministic automata is bounded with several special functions, such as Landaus function and Riemann hypothesis.
Keywords: Automata, number of states, estimation, word length.
