The Bachelor’s paper provides study of four Devonian dolostone deposits, which are placed relatively close to Riga. During the study, Devonian dolostone outcrops were documented, thin-sections made and studied, macro-samples examined, and conclusions and interpretation done. Main tasks were to evaluate porosity, fracturing, and dimensions of dolostone blocks. The goal of work is to make conclusion, is it possible to use these dolostones as material for facing stones. The conclusion is that the best deposits for facing stone production are the Kalnciems deposit, in which large monoliths can be mined, the Remine deposit with beautiful mollusc dolostone and the Turkalne deposit, where dolostone likely is resistant to physical weathering. In the Gaitinas deposit, dolostone is too much fractured for its use in facing dolostone production.
