Computer graphics are one of the most popular computer science branches – a whole lot of people model scenes, create animations, plan architecture or do work similar to that – whether it’s for money or self-fulfillment. To create final images, all these people use some kind of render algorithms – biased or unbiased. And if biased algorithms are mostly driven by author’s creativity, it’s the unbiased algorithms that pose the most interest, for they produce an image that is physically correct or very close to being correct. The work “Rendering a physically correct image” contains the history of biased and unbiased rendering algorithms and their descriptions. Beyond that, the work analyzes an opensource rendering engine that encompasses and demonstrates all the described algorithms.
