Bachelor’s thesis “Communication of the courts with general public” was written in the Department of Theory of Law and History, Faculty of Law, University of Latvia. Public’s trust in the courts in Latvia is the lowest among the Baltic States. Effective judicial communication can boost the public’s trust level in the courts. In this research work, the author explores court communication with the public, focusing on the communication of the judge in court hearings and the communication of the judge with mass media. In the course of her work, the author find out why courts are obliged to communicate, meaning of the term “communication”, the various ways in which courts can communicate with public. The opinions of the Judicial Ethics Commission on violations of ethical norms regarding the conducts of judges communication at court hearings and with mass media are being analysed. The author concludes that it would be necessary to lay down proper legislation to regulate the order of court communication, then it would also be easier to prosecute a judge for a severe communication order violation.
