The role of the media, as well as the increase in the amount of information, poses new challenges in areas related to the human communication processes. That is why more and more people are talking about people's knowledge and skills, how to use the information around them in a productive and critical way. The aim of the study is to investigate the attitudes of young people and their understanding of media credibility in Latvia. The theoretical basis of the study is the psychosocial theory of personality development by Eric Erikson, the characteristics of the young age group of Eric Calvan, the UNESCO media and information literacy matrix and David Buckingham's description of the principles of media activity and a training strategy for the media. According to the results of the research, it can be concluded that young people in Latvia trust the media only partially, they are aware of the influence of the media in their life, but do not pay special attention to the critical evaluation of the media content.
