The protection of personal data, is becoming increasingly relevant in everyday life, because of the rapid technological developments. The protection of personal data went significant changes in 2018, when Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation). In the processing of data, special attention should be paid to the person under age eighteen. It is necessary to draw attention to the way in which the children gives his or her consent to the processing of the personal data and whether the child is entitled to do so alone without parental control. The aim of the work of the bachelor is to analyse the provision of the consent of the child as a data subject, taking into account that in Latvia the child may single-handedly give consent to the processing of his or her personal data from the age of thirteen. As a result of the study, the author concluded that there was a need to strike a balance between the right to protection of personal data and parental obligations relating to parenting, and founds that more attention should be paid when the data is processed on the basis of consent. Keywords: General Data Protection Regulation, child rights, parental responsibility, consent, legality.
