This thesis proposes and proves a new parsimonious reduction from 3SAT to the Hamiltonian cycle problem (HC). 3SAT and HC are well-known NP-complete problems with various polynomial-time reductions between them. However, these reductions often do not preserve the number of solutions; those that do preserve it return graphs with a large number of vertices. The reduction from 3SAT to HC proposed in this thesis is based on another reduction found in the literature, but by modifying some of its construction elements, the resulting graph size is reduced from 16n+185m+16 to 3n+30 vertices, where n and m are the number of variables and clauses in the SAT instance, respectively. Moreover, it is shown that the size of some individual graph constructions is minimal, and a method is proposed to generalize this reduction, allowing for the use of k-SAT instead of 3SAT.
