In this study were studied effects of surface fire on topsoil microbiological and chemical properties in few months, one year and 11 years old burned plots in dry pine forests in Piejūras lowland. Fungi and bacteria are impacted by wildfire directly by heat and indirectly by environmental changes. The aim of this study was to describe the recovery of soil bacteria and soil fungi in dry pine forest after the surface fire. The results show that the highest pHKCl, proportion of total carbon and nitrogen was higher in O horizon of direct fire effect of few months old burned plot compared to unburned plot. The highest content of phospholipid fatty acids is in the deeper layer of the O horizon of the 11-year-old burned area, which was not observed to be directly affected by the fire. The highest fungal/bacterial ratio is in the O horizon of the 11-year-old burn, while the lowest ratio - in the two most recent burns.
