In the present work the results of the search for and study of novae in Andromeda galaxy (M31) are summarized. The work is based on archival photoplates taken with the Schmidt telescope of the Baldone Astrophysical Observatory. A new method for discovery of novae in M31 is developed using photoplate digitization. With this approach three novae in M31 galaxy are discovered, two of them are found to be the optical counterparts of supersoft X-ray sources. One of them is found to be the true optical counterpart of the SSS [PFH]191, which was earlier incorrectly identified by X-ray researchers with another nova that had outburst nine years ago. Other counterpart is found in the position of the brightest transient supersoft X-ray source in M31. It was found during the search for optical counterparts near the positions of the known supersoft, quasisoft and hard X-ray sources in M31. The time separation between the optical outburst of this nova and its detection as supersoft X-ray source is found to be one of the shortest observed up to now for novae in M31. For both novae the optical light curve parameters are determined. Using the published X-ray light curves the masses of the outburst ejecta and white dwarf envelope are estimated.
