In this work it has been researched determination of energy levels of polar (indandione derivatives) and nonpolar (cyclic acenes) organic molecules in thin films by using and summarizing experimental results from measurements of the surface potential and the cyclic voltamperometry (CV) and theoretical results of the quantum chemical calculations. Determination of energy levels is important in order to gain more information about a particular part of the system, for example, Solar cell parts, even before this system is made. By doing this, there is a chance of making more purposeful decisions in the making of complex systems.
Results cover surface potential dependence of thickness of thin films, correlations with CV measurements and theoretical energy levels of molecules. There has been noticed a creation of a strong surface dipole between electrode and thin films, as well as band bending of organic molecules near the contact surface.
