Master’s thesis is written in Latvian on 79 pages. It contains 36 images, 19 tables, 93 references and 14 appendixes.
Low molecular weight fluorescein is widely used in optometry, but it stains soft contact lenses; high molecular weight fluorescein or fluorexon was invented for contact lens fitting tests but is not popular.
Aim: to find out if fluorexon can be used in all the fluorescein staining tests and to particularize its usage conditions.
Spectofotometry methods are used in the research.
Concluded: intensity of fluorescence of both the fluoresceins do not differ statistically, fluorexon tests are to be done in two minutes. One can predict contact lens staining if the contact lens material properties are known.
Keywords: low molecular weight (sodium) fluorescein, high molecular weight fluorescein (fluorexon), contact lens staining.
