Aim: To evaluate the information transfer rate and sensitivity of red-green, blue-yellow and the luminescence channel.
Objectives: Experimentally to determine the individual subject's isoluminance points of red-blue, red-green and yellow-blue colour.
Subjects: Nine subjects without amblyopia aged 20-26 years and two subjects with monocular amblyopia (25 and 32 years old) were tested.
Methods: The isoluminance point for each individual was determined by the flicker method. The reaction response of coloured stimuli was tested with “visual search” program constructed in Visual Basic. The red-green, blue-yellow and white-black Landolt rings were shown on the screen background where one of them was brought into oblique direction but others into right direction. Subjects had to find oblique Landolt ring as soon as possible and to indicate its direction.
Results: Compared to coloured stimuli, the subjects both with and without amblyopia and individuals with simulated amblyopia showed faster reaction time to black-white stimuli. The subjects with amblyopia and individual without amblyopia and subjects with simulated amblyopia presented faster reaction time to blue-yellow stimuli than to red-green stimuli in the case if all stimuli were isoluminant. The reaction time difference between red-green and blue-yellow stimuli was statistically non-significant both with low and high interior lighting. Compared to the subjects with amblyopia, the subjects with simulated amplyopia showed faster reaction time to both coloured and black-white stimuli.
Conclusions: Experimentaly it’s proven that there are differences in information perception between two opponent colour channels for subjects with good vision, subjects with amblyopia and subjects with simulated amblyopia. No statistically significant difference was observed between two opponent colour channels in information transfer rate both with low and high interior lighting. The form of presenting stimuli also plays a role in isoluminant stimuli perception if the symbols are shown for subjects with amblyopia.
