The thesis are written in latvian, on 49 pages. It contains 3 schemes, 9 tabeles, 10 images, 4 appendixes and 41 referances to literature sources.
Objectives: To find out whether the perception of symbols in appropriate amount of time is different in target groups – children with and without reading problems.
Participants of the experiment: 68 primary school pupils, of whom 35 students are from the second clases and 33 from the third classes.
Method: Computer – based program, which in turn is replaced by a different symbol for the number of words by showing them in 500 milliseconds. Expected of verbal answer and fixed correctly and incorrectly named words.
Results, conclusions: The second class average reading speed is 62±3,11, while the third class reads 93±4,74 words/minute. Readers with a good reading speed and readers to reduce the reading speed diference is the percentage word recognition. The second class readers with good reading speed of 4 letter words in length recognized by 95,93±1,95%, while the second class readers to reduce the read speed of 71,37±5,51%, where p<0,05. Increasing age increases the reader’s language, that is, to the word count, so that word recognition is growing. The second class readers to reduce the read speed of 4 letter words recognized by the length of 71,37±5,51%, while the third class readers with a reduced rate reaches 95,24±1,47%. 10 letter words in length in the same group of readers can recognize 25,49±5,15% second class readers, but third class readers 62,86±5,26%. The third class readers with good reading speed slope is – 0,75 so these readers reading speed is independent of word length.
Key words: reading, reading difficulties, memory, words length, word recognition.
