In this work a method for determining the magnetic moment of a single magnetotactic bacterium by measuring its orientational fluctuations in a rotating magnetic field was tested. During the process of work random overturns of 360 degrees of the magnetic dipole were observed while the magnetic dipole was crossing over from the synchronous to the asynchronous regime of motion.
The stochastic equations of the motion of the particle were derived, by taking into account the dependency of the drag coefficients on the distance, to check a recent statement which says that the orientational fluctuations increase when the particle moves closer to the wall. After that Brownian Dynamics simulations were performed, the results were compared to those derived from the steady - state solution of the Fokker - Planck equation. The hypothesis was confirmed.
