dc.description.abstract | Vectorautoregesive process (VAR) models have shown themselves to be an effective method of macroeconometric times series forecasting. However, the downside of VAR is that when you add a new variable to the model, parameter space grows quadratically. Because nowadays country economics are becoming dependent, the question, how to include exogenous variables, which can not be modeled, in the model, is becoming more relevant. Vectorautoregresive process model with exogenous variables (VAR-X) allows to include variables which can not be modeled, however it still faces the dimensionality problem. In order to improve the forecasting of low-frequency multidimension data, in this paper we theoretically analyze regularized VAR and VAR-X models, which with the use of different kind convex objective functions, makes the parameter space more sparse. The practical part of the paper contains forecasting of Latvia’s gross domestic product with regularized VAR and VAR-X in program R.
