Since the end of 20th century a lot of effort has been put into the development of telecommunication systems. Until this day people are researching the properties of new materials with the hope to replace electronic components in circuits with photonic components, because electronic components are the limiting factor of fast broadband communication. The basic building blocks of photonic circuits are waveguides with the appropriate optical characteristics. One of the most promising materials for an all-photonic integrated circuit seem to be organic polymers. This work covers the production of pure as well as functionalized organic SU 8 waveguides with direct write laser lithography technique. The production process is discussed in detail as well as the limitations of the method. Optical and microscopy methods are implemented to characterize the produced waveguide structures.
