The bachelor’s thesis explores the creation of an epidemiologic SIR model and parameter estimation using Bayesian statistics in order to model Covid-19 pandemic in Latvia. The basic and modified SIR model and it's parameters are described. The thesis involves a short description of Bayesian statistic principles and parameter estimation, using Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. The assessment of the parameters characterizing the SIR model $\beta$ and the recovery factor $\gamma$ and the choice of their a priori distributions are discussed. In the practical part, a posteriori distributions of parameters are obtained, which are used to model the dynamics of the disease spread in Latvia. The computation of models is done in R, using RStan package which allows to build Stan models in R. SIR model transmission rate $\beta$ and recovery rate $\gamma$ are estimated.and basic reproduction number $R_0$ is computed.
